Hauku Nui PDF E-mail
hastingsDesign for Life was commissioned in 1989 by the Hastings City Council to create a water sculpture to serve a multitude of purposes. The sculpture, located in the heart of the commercial area, needed to be the centre of the shopping mall development. The design had to be visually open, and needed to communicate the importance of water in this largely horticultural district. Finally it needed to provide a very practical barrier between a well used public space and a major railway corridor.

Mother and Child Sculpture PDF E-mail
spiritThe Council of New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, wanted to bring more form and focus into a very busy pedestrian mall.

After observation of the space, Design for Life created a symmetrical 4-fold sculpture which brought height and bright colour with waterfalls into the area. As the mall has many teenagers in it we also brought the theme of ‘Mother and Child’ central to the design.

tekoutuThe beautiful, forest-surrounded Lake Te Koutu, in the town of Cambridge, was dying from lack of movement, unable to cope with minimal run-off from the town. It needed its waters revivified and plans were in place to build a sluice channel bringing fresh water to it.
